Salvatore Ferragamo was born in Italy in 1898 and was the founder of a prestigious international fashion brand.
The young and poor Salvatore, emigrated from South Italy to Boston (USA). He was fourteen years old.
His main “profession” was a shoemaker. The beginning was working with his brother at a cowboy shoe factory.
However, he was not only good with his hands, but also with his brain.
He skilled to innovate, using new materials and creating new designs.
After a short time in Boston, he moved to Santa Barbara and then to Hollywood (California).
This was where he started with success. He opened a made-to-measure and repair shoe store.
His original shoes, made mostly for celebrities of the local cinema industry, built his name to be famous.
After 13 years in the USA, he returned to Italy, opening in Florence, a workshop for handmade fashion shoes.
This was also a success, and taking advantage of it, he added handbags and luxury fashion clothes.
He died in 1960 at the age of 62.
His widow and children are till today in charge of Salvatore Ferragamo SpA, the company he founded.
The company is an international fashion empire, owning more than 400 stores all over the world with more than 4,000 employees.
The Ferragamo line of products also includes perfumes.
His first for women’s fragrance was launched in 1998.
Since then dozens of new fragrances have been well adopted by perfume lovers.
